Wiesław Hołdys — director and founder
Wiesław Hołdys is the founder, president and director of Teatr Mumerus. His work combines original stage writing, directing and theatre education.
Originally from Cieszyn, he studied theatre studies at the Jagiellonian University and drama directing at Kraków’s theatre school, graduating in 1984 and 1988 respectively. His work has included institutional theatre, independent productions, television theatre and radio drama.
Since 1999, his artistic activity has centred on Mumerus. Alongside directing, he leads theatre workshops, often international, that culminate in collectively created performances. His productions have appeared at festivals in Poland and abroad.
His distinctions include the Bronze Gloria Artis Medal, recognition in the EDU INSPIRACJE competition, the Ars Quaerendi award in the Master category and, with the Mumerus ensemble, the Stanisław Wyspiański Theatre Award. He also works in photography, painting and writing.
